The Superfish Difference
isn’t just how we teach
- it’s why we exist.
For three decades, our programs have prioritised results-driven drowning prevention, structured progression, and real-world water safety competence for every swimmer.
Co-Founded by Champions. Built on Expertise. Driven by Drowning Prevention.
Superfish Swim Schools is a family-owned and operated network of specialist learn to swim and aquatic training centres in Australia. The business was co-founded and is proudly owned by Andrew Baildon, Olympian and International Swimming Champion, and Karen Baildon (née Wenden), accomplished state-level swimmer and daughter of dual Olympic Gold Medallist, World Record Holder and Commonwealth Champion Michael Wenden.
Superfish was established on a clear belief - learn to swim programs must prioritise independent drowning prevention and structured swimming development from the very beginning.
Andrew and Karen remain actively involved in every aspect of the business. They personally design Superfish lesson programs, train and mentor instructors, implement teaching standards across all locations, and continually review delivery to ensure consistency, accountability and measurable progress.
In an industry where many programs lack defined benchmarks, Superfish advances swimmers based on demonstrated competence - not attendance. This uncompromising, results-driven approach to independent water safety has earned industry respect and international recognition.
Andrew and Karen are sought-after speakers and mentors within the aquatic sector, recognised for their structured methodology and commitment to real-world drowning prevention outcomes.
As parents - and now proud grandparents - they understand the trust families place in a swim school. That perspective continues to shape Superfish’s unwavering commitment to child safety, structured progression and genuine, measurable results.
In 2026, Superfish Swim Schools proudly celebrates 30 years of learn to swim leadership and drowning prevention education in Australia - a legacy built on expertise, integrity and a steadfast commitment to saving lives.
Why Superfish Swim Schools are Different
At Superfish, we believe fun and safety go hand in hand - BUT independence comes first.
Our Drowning Prevention Program focuses on teaching babies and young children how to respond independently in the water.

Co-Founders and Owners Andrew and Karen frequently see children who have spent months, even years, in swimming lessons elsewhere yet cannot independently recover or protect themselves in a real-life situation. Time in the pool does not automatically equal drowning prevention ability.
At Superfish, children master independent survival skills before progressing to stroke development - because confidence must be built on competence.
That means learning to float, recover, and move to safety without reliance on flotation aids or artificial support.
We absolutely use songs, engagement and age-appropriate learning techniques - but always with purpose. Every activity builds towards real, independent water safety skills.
